JCC
Consulting says EnterpriseSCHEDULE has made them happy campers
JCC
is a consulting firm specializing in database and client/server solutions. JCC combines wide-ranging practical experience with solid theoretical background and research experience.
JCC's clients range from smaller enterprises to those in Fortune 100 companies in fields as diverse as energy, manufacturing, financial instrument trading, retail merchandising,
computer hardware, computer software, education, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and transportation. JCC is the developer of JCC LogMiner Loader
software used to transmit the changes from an Rdb database to other data stores such as Oracle, XML and Tuxedo.
In a recent conversation with two of JCC's top consultants, Jeff Jalbert and Jeff Haidet, we discussed how ISE's EnterpriseSCHEDULE is used for both their own internal
development and production testing and by one of their own customers.
Using EnterpriseSCHEDULE as the tool to test their loader software, JCC runs a set of around 100 jobs that cycles every 50 minutes on an Alpha ES40 with 4 CPUs. The test is so
CPU intensive that it regularly maxes out the CPU at 100% and has been measured to around 4000 IO's per second. In fact, Jeff Jalbert referred to it as "torture testing the
loader", but they report that EnterpriseSCHEDULE More...

EnterpriseSCHEDULE gives focus to multiple platform environments
Over the last six months, new customers purchasing EnterpriseSCHEDULE have increasingly ordered the software for at least two platforms, and almost one-third ordered
it for three or more OS's. This indicates the growth of multi-platform enterprises, an environment that EnterpriseSCHEDULE has been designed for and accommodates easily.
The requirement to control, administer and monitor batch job activity on multiple nodes from a single workstation is becoming more critical everyday. EnterpriseSCHEDULE is a
feature-rich, easy-to-use job scheduling solution that meets the needs of today's growing enterprise.

EnterpriseSCHEDULE
One of EnterpriseSCHEDULE's most frequently used features is its rescheduling methods.
EnterpriseSCHEDULE allows you to select which jobs are to be run, specify their start times and to schedule them at regular intervals, define a specific day of the week or month to initiate the job. You can also create schedule calendars that recognize national holidays and weekends when jobs are not to run, as well as fiscal calendars.
The flexibility of SCHEDULE is ideal for customizing jobs to a company's specific requirements and for multi-national companies with distributed
processing who need to allow for varying national holidays. You can also instruct SCHEDULE not to run jobs until a minimum amount of disk space is available or until
required files are available ensuring fast and reliable processing.

MEDIA includes many features designed to simplify and automate all aspects of media management. One of the features is user dependent media access and
security...
- User versus operator added media:
Whenever a medium is cataloged into the library database, it is noted what type of user added the media. Three classes of user are recognized: OPERATORS, MANAGERS and general users. A general user can only delete media that he has added to the database. An OPERATOR can delete any type of media.
- Access controls:
With each medium cataloged into the library database, a UIC-based, access control string is kept. This access list is grouped in SYSTEM, OWNER, GROUP and WORLD users. Each group has an associated access specification.
- Volume security:
All volumes initialized by the librarian are set to be owned by the UIC and protected as indicated in the on-line database. This will effectively (except for the owner of the reel) disable the VMS MOUNT command for a user. The MEDIA MOUNT command will mount such media and set the parameters once mounted to match that defined in the library database. The Librarian goes to great lengths to prevent accidental destruction of data on media. Before any operation is allowed on a media, the label is checked to verify that it is indeed the correct media.

It's great to get a notification from EnterpriseSCHEDULE when a Job fails, but can the
Job's log be included in the email?
Yes, through a job's property page simply click on the "notify" tab. Then in the "Message Text" box enter the key
word "send_log". Every time an event notification is sent for this job, its log file will be attached. If you want a key word "function" to be
available for a specific notification event, use the block control structure to further define the notification. Here is an example for "send_log" for
"failed" events only. More..

How Do I Allow EnterpriseSCHEDULE Client-Server and Server-Server Communications through
Windows XP SP 2 Firewall?
The recent release of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP has the IT world scrambling to meet the requirements of the new
increased security features. Among significant changes in the OS is the default closing of all ports that facilitate TCP/IP communication by the built-in Firewall. Since
EnterpriseSCHEDULE needs to have an available TCP/IP port open to operate in a Windows environment for server to server and client to remote server connections, it must be
opened manually. More...
