The University of California, Riverside (UCR) is the fastest growing and most ethnically diverse of the 10 campuses of the University of California. As a major
research university, UCR offers an exceptional environment for both undergraduate and graduate students interested in a supportive, collegial
learning environment with nationally and internationally recognized faculty dedicated to the highest standards in research, teaching and public service.
UCR Systems Administrator Bob Ayers recently sat down with ISE to discuss how many of
the operations in the Data Center of UCR have been automated using ISE EnterpriseSCHEDULE. Bob has been the primary administrator of the OpenVMS
operations for several years and uses EnterpriseSCHEDULE to schedule the majority of database operations including exports and reports, system backups and overall system maintenance. More...
ISE a InterSystems application partner
ISE is an Application Partner of Intersystem Corporation, the proprietor of the "Caché", a Post-relational database and
"Ensemble", a Universal integration platform. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Intersystem has served the needs of various IT organizations
and independent software vendors for more than two decades. ISE's EnterpriseSCHEDULE is presently involved in the automation and system management of
other 3rd party software applications that are based on the Cache' system. This ISE automation interface has been functional at a number of the teaching medical universities
utilizing the IDX medical software systems. The ISE EnterpriseSCHEDULE solution includes several key features to facilitate the integration and streamline the use of it in
the Caché environment. One enhancement is a simple mechanism for capturing keystrokes as a user types and then saving them into a job for automated re-use later on
. This along with other key benefits which maintains maximum flexibility in the execution of these systems, has proved to be a very effective tool at the participating sites. Please
give us a call if these "features" might prove useful in your environment.

EnterpriseSCHEDULE
In EnterpriseSCHEDULE, the user can use job templates to simplify job definition. A job template provides default values for many aspects of a job definition, such as
the node and batch queue to use for execution, the job's rescheduling method and calendar, event notifications, and access controls. With a little forethought and
planning, you can greatly simplify the creation of new jobs by setting up and using job templates.
In SCHEDULE, the job template is a job named DEFAULT. When the software is installed, the DEFAULT directory contains a job named DEFAULT, which provides default values for
new jobs until you create your own DEFAULT job templates. For example, for a particular suite of jobs, you may want to set up default values for the following areas of the
job definition:
- · Protection settings
- · Flags
- · Batch and print queues
- · Notifications
- · Delay, startup, and execution windows
You can create a DEFAULT job template in each directory. When you create a new job in a particular directory, the defaults are taken from the DEFAULT job in that directory.
If a DEFAULT job does not exist in a particular directory or subdirectory, SCHEDULE searches for one in the same order used to search for calendars: in the job's
subdirectory, in the top-level directory, and in the DEFAULT directory.
Another way to simplify the definition of a new job is to copy an existing job that has many of the settings desired for the new job. Then you only need to change a few
settings for the new job.

EnterpriseBACKUP
EnterpriseBACKUP has many restore features. One of the features is Restore in the MOTIF Work Center.
VAULT, Restore via search and Restore entire disk makes the restoring of lost or deleted files easier by allowing restoration from remote nodes and even remote PC's. The
process is further simplified by the ease of use of the MOTIF Work Center . Each of the restore features are available from the Restore submenu of the Controls menu on any
of the interfaces.
- The Restore entire disk program can be used to restore a disk because of errors, disk crash, relocation or any other reason. The latest full disk backup and latest
incremental backups are combined to restore the disk to it's most recent state.
-
VAULT maintains a directory structured database that lists information about files that have been backed up. The main objective is to facilitate identifying what has been backed up and simplify the selective file restore process. The VAULT interface is made up of the File selection fields, the file list and controls for customizing and displaying the the file list. The VAULT database contains an entry for every file. This entry gives the file storage location, when backed up and other attributes. Each backup can be individually set to add or not to add information to the database.
- The Restore via search facility allows the OPERATOR to create a detailed search criteria to locate needed files. By selecting such specific criteria as files names,
saveset names and backup job, it is possible to locate files on any volume.

Is there a report that scans the completion status history of jobs. It would also be
nice to sort on the completion status to have the Successful jobs grouped together and the Failed jobs grouped together?
The following is an example of history report that scans the entire database for a request job and its completion
status. More...
