Campus USA is First to Go Live

September 16, 2005, Valley Forge, Pa. - USERS Incorporated, a business unit of Fiserv, Inc. (Nasdaq: FISV), announced that it has signed ISE, Inc. SCHEDULE is organized as a server process with client programs. The server is the engine that works in a detached process to submit jobs for execution when appropriate. It reschedules jobs based on your instructions and it constantly checks to see which jobs are due to be executed. In addition, the server process performs all database I/O, network communications and scheduling state changes.

You pass information to the server process using any of the user interfaces described in the later section `User interfaces'. These user interfaces act as client programs to the SCHEDULE server. The clients pass information to the server to request some action to be taken, such as submitting a job to be executed.

The basic approach to using BCKMGR is to create a new job (or select a pre-existing one), apply your desired options and submit it. As you will see, there are several other options including "Full disk recovery" and media assignment options, but job definition and submission are the principle functions.

Using BCKMGR, you can easily designate the media you are using for a backup, the job type, the number of media required and the priority of the job. You can set the submit options and the access controls. You can decide whether you want a record of your backup to be put in the VAULT database. Once you have all the settings defined for a job, it can be submitted at regular intervals, on a daily or weekly basis or any time span you designate.

In our day to day operations we have many keyboard entry sessions that are repeated. Is it possible to capture a session and make this session a task that can be run daily without an operator being present?

Yes, EnterpriseSCHEDULE has a function that captures (saves) the keyboard entries of a session into the make-up of a job. Once captured, the session can be run again and again as an EnterpriseSCHEDULE job. In addition, input to the keyboard session can be variables from the EnterpriseSCHEDULE database. At run time, the EnterpriseSCHEDULE variables allow you to change (token substitue) a value in the capture session. More...
